MONTRÉAL: L'INVITATION AU VOYAGE

 

À travers son oeuvre photographique Montréal: L'invitation au voyage, la photographe Valérie Jodoin-Keaton fait un survol de sa ville natale à travers le temps et l'espace. La murale invite le spectateur à se laisser transporter à travers les lieux et les temps significatifs de Montréal. Étendue sur les murs et les plafonds des deux étages du lobby de l'hôtel Monville, la fresque photographique de 3000 pieds carrés rend hommage à Montréal ainsi qu'à ses créateurs. L'artiste entremêle le passé et le présent en rapiéçant ses propres photographies (environ 200) avec celles de générations passées (86 photos d'archives provenant des collections d'Archives Montréal, la BAnQ et le musée Pointe-à-Callières ; voir titres et références au front desk de l’hôtel) et en unifiant le tout avec le même rendu noir et blanc. Telle une courtepointe, la fresque photographique tisse les éléments clés de Montréal selon la vision personnelle de l'artiste et enveloppe l'espace public de l'hôtel Monville pour lui donner une dimension intemporelle.

MONTREAL: INVITATION TO THE VOYAGE

Through her photographic work Montreal: Invitation to the Voyage, photographer Valérie Jodoin-Keaton provides an overview of her hometown through time and space. The mural transports the viewer through various periods in the city's history, visiting important landmarks along the way. Spread throughout the walls and ceilings of the two floors of Monville Hotel's lobby, the 3000-square-foot photographic fresco pays tribute to Montreal and its creators. The artist intertwines the past and the present by patching her own photographs (about 200 photos) with those of past generations (86 archival photos from the collections of Archives de Montréal, BAnQ and Pointe-à-Callières Museum; see annex for titles and references) and by unifying them with the same black and white rendering. Like a quilt, Valérie Jodoin-Keaton's photographic fresco weaves together key elements of Montreal's culture and architecture according to the artist's personal vision and envelops the public space of Monville Hotel to give it a timeless dimension.
